Rhett DeVane with dog, Shelly

Have you ever heard of a Cathead Biscuit?

For those of you who haven't -- a Cathead is a biscuit made with lard, squeezed out by hand, and, when cooked, is as big around as a cat's head. And, no, they don't call it that because they eat domesticated animals in the South.

And, do you know the true test of a well-made Cathead?

When you split it open while it's steaming hot and slather it with butter, you can drag it through thick, golden, Southern cane syrup, and it will hold together. Leave it out overnight uncovered, and you could chunk it across the room and kill someone with it.

Ever wish you could read fiction with engrossing storylines, rich in all the emotions of life with a few yummy recipes mixed in? How about novels that transport you to the New Deep South for your own primer in all things southern?

How about tales with hopeful, yet realistic, endings?

Well, honey hush! Your wishes are Rhett DeVane's passion.

No need to wait for an invitation. You're on the party list.

Put on your best, come on in, and grab a glass of sweet tea.

Enjoy the cast of characters, including the family's favorite senior, Aunt Piddie Longman.

THE AUNT PIDDIE LONGMAN QUOTE FOR SPRING:

"Spring in the South reminds me of how foolish we all get to being when the weather turns nice. Folks fall in and out of love faster than they change their under-drawers. Some folks pick fights. Others run off to the home store to buy flowers and such.

But Spring can be fickle--and a good lesson in patience for anyone who's up for learnin'. One moment it's all warm and happy; the next the frost laces up the new grass. At least the folks at the home stores are happy. They get to sell new plants when the others get nipped back."

On a sad note:

The family of Theresa DeVane, beloved mother and

inspiration for the character of Aunt Piddie Longman,

passed away peacefully on January 5, 2009,

just two days shy of her 92nd birthday.

Rhett often said,

"my mother is my biggest fan, and I am hers."

Godspeed to you, Miz Terry.
